What are executive functions?

A set of skills acting as "air traffic control" for the brain.

They are the brain's coordinating system, running different cognitive processes and managing resources to accomplish tasks effectively

Impulse control

Having the capacity to think before you act. We say it until we are red in the face, but how do we teach it?!

Time management

Don't let your child or teen feeling overwhelmed be the reason they don't get the task done. Evidence-based strategies will be shared in the report summary.

Working memory

The capacity to hold information in mind while manipulating other info. For example, remembering the plot to the story while decoding a tricky word!

Why teach executive functioning skills?

  • Contrary to Popular Belief...

Learning executive skills does not automatically happen as a child's brain matures. We must teach them. Practice them. Reinforce them. (Source: Ctr on The Developing Child, Harvard Univ.)

  • Did you know the average person...

Spends 218 minutes per day procrastinating? That is 55 days each year. The latest research says feeling overwhelmed and distractibility are the two leading reasons behind procrastination.

  • Child not meeting grade-level expectations?

It might not be that your child doesn't know the content -- instead, they may need support and specific interventions with sustained attention, impulse control, time management strategies, or working memory.

What People Are Saying

My middle school son has worked with with Go for Growth to help him with his processing, ADHD, and executive functioning. Jenna is so incredibly supportive and encouraging of him! I have seen significant changes in him since doing these programs — he reads books! He is planning out his day, and even setting timers to remind himself of things. I am seeing his independence and his confidence grow, and his grades in school are improving — I wish we’d found Jenna so much sooner!

Prior to starting to worth with Go for Growth, our 15-year-old was really struggling with impulsivity and self regulation of emotions, including anger, overreaction and irritability. His impulsivity is much more manageable. He is able to self regulate and can intervene with himself to make better decisions and slow down his reactiveness. He is also listening to adults advice with more maturity in moments when he is being impulsive. He is more confident, too!

Go for Growth worked with my son to help him learn new techniques for managing his ADHD in 8th grade during a very challenging time for my son (and us). I have always said that if my son had had access to this type of support earlier, his journey would have been so much better (and easier).
